Katy Kartwheel: Biography

​Katy Kartwheel is an English Actress and Circus Performer. She was a keen gymnast as a child with a love for Drama and the Arts. At age 17 she won a scholarship to train with Zippo's Circus and spent the season touring and performing Tightwire and Aerial Hexagon in the big top.

Katy is best known for her role as the body and stunt creature performer "Rio Durant" in Solo, A Star Wars Story, working alongside the lead cast including Woody Harrelson. She was an integral part of the Star Wars creatures department under BAFTA award winner Neal Scanlan  having previously secured roles in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Katy performs in big top circuses, theatres and indoor/outdoor events specializing in Aerial Acts, Multi-Hula Hooping, Stilt-walking and Fire Performance. Credits include: Tequila Circus, Circus of Dreams, Glastonbury festival, Wilderness festival, Britain's Got Talent, BBC Children in Need and countless local festivals, events and parties in the South East. 

Katy set up Katy Kartwheel's Circus Passion, to share with her community the many benefits of Circus Arts; offering a unique mix of Circus Parties, Family Entertainment, Circus Performance, Circus Workshops and Aerial Tuition. Her business has won multiple awards including Tailored entertainment service of the year (2025) and most innovative and inclusive circus school of the year (2025).

Developing her career, Katy gained a 1st Class BSc Psychology degree from Oxford Brookes University in 2022, and 2 years later a certificate in "Using Circus Skills as an Educational and Therapeutic Tool". She specializes in delivering circus skills to groups/individuals who experience severe mental health challenges. Katy has 3 beloved children and is a carer to family members with chronic mental health conditions.
